NYMEX trading is considerably limited today since it’s a federal holiday in the USA (Martin Luther King Day). In our local market though, Dawn spot gas prices rose some over the weekend, but still remains quite cheap for January. Same story for AECO spot prices. Liquidity should pick back up tomorrow, where traders will likely see some significant cold on the horizon for late January and early February. NOAA is expecting a cold front to drop on all of the heaviest demand areas from Northeastern cities as well as the Appalachian production region. Of course, this will stretch up into Ontario too. The polar vortex took a while to show up this year, but seems like meteorologists and weather models are in agreement that this one is on the way. For now, it appears to be the coldest stretch of the season, but should not last too long into February.
