Natural Gas Market Updates

January 12, 2026 – Market Update

A rally to begin the week, seems like NYMEX is correcting itself after Friday’s big sell-off, even in the face of meteorologists predicting an impending cold snap. February 2026 settled up 24 cents to $3.41 US/mm. Forecasts have not shifted too far since Friday. After some recent warmth, Ontario temperatures should plunge to below normal this week, and especially next week. Demand is up in the Northeastern US as they experience cold as well, Canadian gas exports to the region are quite high, and thus so are Dawn storage withdrawals. While NYMEX gets its footing amid these changing conditions and any geopolitical news, Dawn spot prices will likely soon reflect the incoming heating demand.
