Natural Gas Market Updates

April 17, 2026 – Market Update

There was a bit more going on in energy markets today, although crude was where the real move showed up. WTI fell $11.54 to $83.15 USD/BBL after Iran said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to commercial shipping for the duration of the ceasefire, which took a large chunk of the supply disruption premium back out of oil. Gas was relatively quiet by comparison, with NYMEX up $0.03 USD/MMBtu and Dawn up $0.02 CAD/GJ. On the Ontario side, the tone still looks fairly soft, with Dawn and Tecumseh storage unchanged over the past two weeks at 67 PJ and 27 PJ, respectively, which continues to fit with a looser shoulder-season balance. Happy Friday and have a nice weekend! (JM)
