The EIA reported today that as of August 1, 2025, only 7 Bcf total was added to the Lower 48 states’ storage, keeping inventories relatively flat this week. Interestingly, there were significant withdrawals in the South Central region of the USA, but unsurprising given the extreme weather and heat affecting the area as of late. The Eastern region only added 5 Bcf, quite small, and is just under average.
While not a big increase, overall inventories are still above the 5-year average by a decent margin. After summer’s peak heat passes, there will be one more stretch of strong injection before the cold begins.

Not much of a reaction in NYMEX in response to this news, futures dipped some but ultimately settled basically exactly where they were yesterday. September front month is $3.06 US/mm.
