Natural Gas Market Updates

October 9, 2024 – Market Update

Hurricane Milton Update: Milton is forecast to make landfall just south of Sarasota as a Category 3 hurricane sometime overnight and to cause heavy damage from wind, rain, flooding, storm surge, and possibly tornadoes.  There is no good news here.

NYMEX November front month contract eased off 9 cents to $2.63 US/mm.  The winter strip came off 10 cents to $3.07.  Next summer strip sold off 7 cents to $3.14. Chart from Trading View:

It seems that producers are not increasing production in response to winter prices being higher than summer prices.  LSEG reported that average output for October so far has been 101 bcf/day, down from September’s 101.8 bcf/day.

Tomorrow’s storage report for the week ending Oct 4th is forecast to show an injection of +71 bcf, one of the highest recent weekly injection number, but still below the 5 year average of +96 bcf.
