What is a variable rate? 

A variable rate for gas will go up or down monthly, based on local and global markets. We bulk purchase gas year-round to take advantage of scale and share those efficiencies with you. Our variable rate plans are 3 year agreements and the changes monthly. Click here to learn more.


Which rate should I choose?

We are here to help you pick the right rate for your family and business. If you feel prices are at or near the bottom of the price cycle, consider a Fixed-Rate agreement. If prices appear to be at a peak, consider Variable Plan. Either way we are here to help you get the plan you want. Do your rates qualify for Budget Billing?

Yes. A Budget Billing Plan (BBP) is also known as equal billing and is a program offered by your utility. With BBP, your utility estimates your total annual fees and charges you an equal amount each month, keeping track of how much you’ve paid vs what you have actually used. Once a year, (usually in July) your utility will compare what you have paid to what you have used resulting in a one-time credit (meaning you over paid) or debit (meaning you underpaid) on your bill. If you are part of a BBP, and you have an agreement with RiteRate, you will continue on Budget Billing unless you ask your utility to be removed from the program.


What is the difference between RiteRate and Enbridge. 

While Enbridge is a regulated utility, RiteRate is a gas marketer serving the needs of customers across Canada. Wanting to give you as much flexibility and control as possible, we bulk purchase gas from sources across Canada and pass those efficiencies onto you. We have a variety of plans available designed to fit the needs of homeowners and business.


How can I be sure my supply will be secure?

You will always have gas when you need it. We are gas professionals that have purchase natural gas from Canadian suppliers for over 50 years. We bulk buy gas according to our customer needs and ship it to your utility, who delivers it to you, safe, sound and secure. 


What is the sign-up process like?

The sign-up process is simple and should take no more than 10 minutes. We will give you clear and simple instructions to follow and show you exactly what you are signing up for. All you need is a copy of your current gas bill (with your account number), your full address and an email address you can easily access. No credit card required! Click here to get started.


What happens after I sign up?

After you sign up online we will instantly send you an email with a copy of your contract with includes a price comparison form, terms and conditions and a contract summary. If you have any questions about any of the information please call us at 1.877.866.8056.

10 days after you signed up, you will receive a verification email invite. This is a requirement from our regulator that we fully support. This email is a confirmation that you still want to benefit from our RiteRate plans. The regulator asks for this because some marketers use hi-pressure tactics to sign people up. That never has been (nor will it ever be) our approach. We want you to choose the right program for your needs. 

This verification email invite will have a simple link for you to follow, let you review your contract details and click ‘verify’. This will take just a few minutes and is the last step to sign up for one of our great gas plans. If you don’t verify your contract within 45 days, your contact will be cancelled with no penalty to you. 

When does my contract start?

Your contract will indicate your start date. After signing up and confirming your rate, we will add you to the queue to start taking advantage of our plans. We have four start dates throughout the year: the first of January, April, July and October. Your RiteRate plan will begin on the next available start date.


Do RiteRate plans work for renters?

Where will my gas bill come from?

Your gas bill will continue to come from your current gas utility (Enbridge for example). Your customer charge, delivery change and transportation costs won’t change. On that same bill you will see a line for supply that reads “You are buying your gas from Canadian RiteRate Energy” with the rate we have guaranteed on your plan. You pay your utility as you have in the past and your utility will pay us for your contact.


If rates fall, can I cancel my agreement

There is no penalty for cancelling your agreement with us (or any natural gas marketer) if done within 10 calendar days of signing. After that, you may terminate the agreement for free within 30 days of receiving your second bill. After that date, our contracts are binding because we have committed to our suppliers to purchase natural gas on your behalf for a term that matches the length of your agreement.


Is there anything I need to do to switch to RiteRate from another marketer?

We would love to be your natural gas supplier! Your current gas retailer is legally required to send you a renewal package, no less than 60 days and no more than 120 days, prior to the end of your agreement. In that package there is a renewal cancellation form that you MUST fill out and return to your current marketer within 30 days of receiving it. Otherwise, they may automatically renew your agreement for one year, typically at your current rate.

What if I sell my house or the account holder passes away?

We are here to help you with any big changes to your life. If you are moving, simply provide us with proof of sale of your property and we will end your contact for you, hassle free and with no fees. If the account holder has passed away, simply provide us with a copy of the death certificate and we will transfer the account or wind it down. We will work with your utility as well to make sure the account closure is smooth and hassle free. 


What if I am moving?

We can come along for the move with you. We will be happy to seamlessly transition your contract to your new address. Just give us a call at 1-877-866-8056 and we will look after everything. No fees and hassle free. 


Can I sign a paper copy of the contact?
